Understanding E911 Compliance
On February 16, 2020 the FCC implemented Kari’s Law and RAY BAUM’s Act requiring multi-line telephone systems (MLTS) like those used in office buildings, hospitals, schools, government agencies and hotels to enable direct 911 dialing and provide an accurate dispatchable location to emergency services.
Kari’s Law and RAY BAUM’s Act >
Direct Dialing and Dispatchable Location
Kari’s Law Requirements (In Effect, Due Feb. 16 2020)
Direct access to 9-1-1 without an access code.
Routing to the 9-1-1 PSAP (public safety answer point) with no interception.
On-site notification to staff of who dialed 9-1-1.
RAY BAUMS’s Act Requirements (In Effect, Due Jan. 6 2021)
Requires dispatchable location to be delivered for wired devices.
Dispatchable location is defined as building address and additional data that can locate the caller in a reasonable amount of time.
This new law requires no additional digits (such as 9) must be dialed in order to reach 911. You can test this yourself by dialing 911 and when reaching the operator inform them this was a test call, they call also verify your address. If they are unreachable or you address is incorrect, contact us to adjust your phone system programming.
RAY BAUM’s Act requires any separate office, floor, suite, or room where 911 was dialed to be conveyed to the emergency dispatcher. This requires adding a DID phone number for a single phone or group in the same location with e911 features enabled. Call us today to receive.
